The Ultimate Guide To Chakra Balancing
The Ultimate Guide To Chakra Balancing
The ancient Indian belief in a series of seven chakras, or energy centers, is the basis for chakra balancing.
The Sanskrit word for wheel is a chakra. These energy centers are thought to be located between the base of the spine and the top of the skull at specific points.
Additional chakras extend beyond the physical body into the human auric field in some esoteric systems.
Each chakra corresponds to specific body organs, illnesses, colours, elements, and emotions.
What Are Chakras?
In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel,” and it refers to your body's energy centers.
These spinning energy wheels or disks represent specific nerve bundles and major organs. Your chakras must remain open or balanced to function optimally.
You may feel physical or emotional symptoms relating to a specific chakra if it becomes blocked. Along your spine, there are seven major chakras.
They begin at the base of your spine and reach the top of your head. However, others claim that the human body contains at least 114 chakras.
The ancient Indian concept of seven chakras, or energy centers, is the basis for chakra balancing. The Sanskrit term for wheel is a chakra.
These energy centers are placed between the spine's base and the top of the head at certain places.
Additional chakras should extend beyond the physical body into the human auric field in some esoteric systems.
Each chakra corresponds to specific body organs, illnesses, colours, elements, and emotions. On the other hand, different systems or sources that use the concept of chakras may disagree on the details.
The concept of chakras is essential in two ancient Indian therapeutic traditions still practiced today (ayurvedic medicine and yoga).
Many modern therapies (such as polarity therapy, therapeutic touch, process acupressure, core energetics, and colour therapy) have incorporated the concept of chakras into their healing visions in recent decades.
The chakras can be “balanced” in a variety of ways. Chakra balancing improves health by increasing the body's energy flow, similar to how a tune-up allows a car to run efficiently.
The Origins Of Chakras
The Vedas, ancient Indian texts that describe the philosophy of yoga, contain the earliest written record of chakras. The Vedas are thousands of years old, but their exact age is unknown.
The concept of chakras has evolved, influencing Hindu and Buddhist traditions and healing therapies. They are part of a group of beliefs known as Tantra.
In the early twentieth century, European spiritualists and occultists began publishing books about Tantra, including chakras. Today, the Western understanding of chakras is based on these books.
The link between chakras and rainbow colours appears to have originated with twentieth-century Western thinkers. Chakras have been linked to a variety of things since then, including:
- Metals
- Astrological signs
- Foods or herbs
- Crystals or minerals
- Tarot cards
The Western chakra system describes this relatively new way of thinking about chakras. It has influenced several New Age alternative health practices, including crystal healing and homeopathy.
Types Of Chakras
Life is more than just what you can see with your eyes. You can open up new avenues to healing and growth by connecting to the unseen (subtle) energy within you, including the chakra system.
The following meditations correspond to the seven primary energetic centers along the spine and various aspects of life and living.
To bring more harmony and balance to your entire being, guide yourself through whichever meditation speaks to your current circumstance, or rotate through each meditation every day for a week.
1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)
Try this grounding meditation to stimulate your root chakra if you're feeling uncomfortable, overwhelmed with uncertainty, or going through significant life changes.
To connect more thoroughly to the earth element, conduct this meditation outside, seated on the ground.
Plant your feet firmly on the ground if you're seated in a chair; you may lie on the floor for this one.
Imagine a ruby-red sphere of light illuminating the floor of your pelvis as you close your eyes and bring your awareness to the base of your spine.
The light may go down your legs to your feet or cover the full area of your body that is in contact with the ground beneath you if you are lying down.
Take a deep breath. Imagine bolstering the physical basis of your body with each breath, sending your roots deep and wide.
Draw energy up your roots into the space immediately in front of your tailbone, which should glow red on your inhalations, and send it back down and wide into the soil underneath you on your exhalations.
When It's Blocked
According to believers, blockages can cause several diseases, including anxiety problems, anxiety, and nightmares.
Physically, the first chakra is linked to colon, bladder, secretory, lower back, leg, and foot disorders.
The root chakra, like any chakra, can be underactive or overactive, according to Ambi Kavanagh, a reiki therapist, astrologer, and author of Chakras & Self-Care:
Activate the Healing Powers of Chakras with Everyday Rituals. “‘Underactive' suggests it's closed, blocked, or not rotating properly in some way.
In this circumstance, we may feel worried, insecure, and unsafe—and thus ungrounded,” says Kavanagh.
“If the energies are overactive, it's as if they're working overtime and are overly tied to the physical and material world in ways that are unhealthy.”
2. Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana)
This meditation can assist you in trusting your emotional intelligence and allowing your emotions to flow freely through you.
When you feel trapped or inflexible, spend time with this sacral chakra technique to connect to your emotional center.
It allows the area around your lower back and hips to relax because your hips are higher than your knees.
Rock your pelvis forth and backward a few times before finding stillness to loosen up the region around the sacral center.
Visualize a lovely, vivid setting sun as it lowers over the ocean's horizon line, floating right in the middle of your pelvic bowl—midway between your navel and pubic bone.
Your inner body is bathed in a brilliant orange glow that bounces off the soothing waves of the sea.
Begin to see your breath as ocean waves, with inhalations dragging the waves closer to shore and exhalations pulling the waves back into the sea.
Although your body is immobile, your breath never stops moving, and you can see the breath suspension between rounds.
Imagine any blocked emotional energy being washed over and through your system as you meditate on the breath and the water element, cleaning you from the inside out.
When It's Blocked
Your sacral chakra may be misaligned if you're feeling uninspired artistically or emotionally unstable.
Similarly, this can be linked to physical and sexual dysfunction, fear of change, despair, or addiction-like behaviours.
“When someone is underactive, they may experience poor libido, a lack of joy in life, or hormonal and fertility concerns,” adds Kavanagh.
“When we are hyperactive, we are more likely to develop addictions, whether sex or other addictions and to experience a lot of emotional swings from highs to lows, similar to an emotional rollercoaster.”
3. Solar Plexus (Manipura)
Bringing energy to your solar plexus can remind you of your power and strength when feeling powerless, unworthy, or insecure. As you connect to your warrior nature, draw in courage, discipline, and confidence.
Start by sitting comfortably, with your spine tall and relaxed. Bring your hands to your tummy and massage large circles in a circular motion before lying down.
This movement will not only help to maintain a healthy digestive fire, but it will also soothe the belly, which can become rigid when emotions of unworthiness arise.
Release your hands onto your thighs and deepen your breath after stroking 7–10 circles on your tummy. Gently tone your abdominal muscles on exhalations, and let the belly relax on inhalations.
This pattern will assist a delicate Ujjayi breath, infusing your system with natural heat from the inside out.
Visualize dread, inadequacy, and feelings of being trapped by your circumstances and being burned away by the element of fire.
With each breath cycle, visualize the flame behind your naval and blow the smoke through your nose.
You may support your heart's desires by energetically cleaning your abdominal area, allowing you to act from a place of power and self-confidence.
When It's Blocked
You may have low self-esteem, difficulties making decisions, and challenges with anger or control. Olivia points out that it's not only about feeling horrible about yourself.
It may also lead to outward displays of apathy, procrastination, or the feeling of being easily exploited. You may also get a gut ache, like digestive problems or gas. (Ugh.)
According to Kavanagh, a blocked solar plexus chakra causes us to struggle with self-doubt and be our highest, most authentic selves.
On the other hand, the situation isn't much better: “A rampaging ego—being power-hungry and egotistical, leading in manic behaviour and hyperactive energy, are signs of an overactive solar plexus,” she explains.
4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Try this meditation if you're feeling isolated, lonely, or heartbroken. Bringing energy to your heart chakra allows you to connect to unconditional, objectless love, resilience, compassion, and generosity.
Sit tall, shoulders back, and confidently hold your posture. Because your lungs are connected to your heart chakra, you must try to breathe deeply during this exercise.
Imagine an emerald green light covering your entire chest cavity to begin. You are strengthening the barrier that protects your heart from life's hardships and sorrows by bolstering this light with your attention and breath. Allow this green light to nourish you to feel safe in your ability to love and be loved.
Draw attention to the center point of your chest—a pink diamond that depicts the spiritual heart itself—after breathing into this place for several minutes. Beyond your self-perceptions, this warm and calm light represents the heart of who you are.
This heart diamond radiates love, beauty, and goodness, assisting you in sharing your light with the world. The light does not require an object to shine upon; it is love, manifesting as you.
When It's Blocked
The heart chakra is perfectly centred in your body, balancing the worlds of matter (lower three chakras) and spirit (upper three chakras).
This chakra may be out of balance if you can't forgive or have difficulty empathizing with others, and rebalancing it boils down to dealing with repressed emotions.
Your heart chakra tends to go out of whack when you repress your feelings, whether a traumatic event from your childhood or a grudge you've held for the past week.
5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
This meditation can encourage creativity, artistic expression, and authentic life by allowing you to express yourself on all levels.
Circulate your head and neck gently before settling into a comfortable upright position. Soften your jaw while keeping your mouth shut.
Relax the skin surrounding your lips and separate your bottom teeth from your top teeth. Bring attention to your throat and neck, and imagine a beautiful turquoise jewel in its center.
This gemstone signifies your true self and your power to offer the world. It contains the words you wish to communicate, the stories you wish to tell, the art you wish to present, and the music you wish to perform.
It also serves as a link between your emotions and your mind. Inhale energy into the turquoise light in the center of your throat, then exhale it through your nose or mouth.
Imagine a blue light shining through your ears, assisting you in hearing your inner voice and listening to others.
This chakra's balance aids in many aspects of communication, from writing concise and eloquent emails to having difficult conversations with family members to communicating your message through art, photography, or singing.
Imagine using your voice for a while, concentrating on your throat chakra. Allow this practice to assist you in making a constructive contribution to the world in your own unique and authentic way.
Humming, chanting, and singing can be good for the throat chakra. Find Music that you enjoy and play or sing along with it. To further open your throat channel and vocal cords, chant the sound, Ham.
When It's Blocked
Grief, rage, envy, fear of betrayal, and hatred toward yourself and others can all result from a closed heart chakra.
“When we are underactive, we may become emotionally locked off, making it difficult to forgive and move on from past injuries,” explains Kavanagh.
“As a result, it may become difficult to offer and accept love, which may have an unfavourable impact on our relationships.”
We may become excessively affectionate if we are hyperactive. That might not seem like a problem initially, but Kavanagh points out that it's frequently a cover for co-dependency.
“Being too dependent, needy, jealous, and possessive, with a lack of boundaries, will have a rippling effect on our relationships,” she says.
6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
This meditation aids mental clarity, vision expansion for the future, and trusting your intuition.
You can more readily break through your restrictive mental patterns and acquire greater insight and inventiveness by consistently meditating on your third eye.
Close your eyes comfortably while sitting or lying down. Bring energy to the third eye point by raising your focus to the space between your brows.
The third eye looks inward, while the physical eyes view outward. Imagine indigo or a deep, royal blue as you concentrate on this energetic spot. Keep the skin surrounding your eyes as smooth and relaxed as possible.
Begin to bring your consciousness back to the mid-brain from the forehead. Consider the consciousness that sees through your eyes, and try to catch glimpses of this inner light between your ears.
Allow your ideas to pass by like clouds and bring your consciousness back to your brain's midline. Push the tip of your tongue to the upper palate if it helps to activate the Ajna chakra from beneath it.
Keep breathing smoothly and steadily as you breathe in and out through your nose. Alternate nostril breathing can help you relax and balance your mind's intuitive centers.
This meditation demonstrated to help develop mental clarity and reduce stress can be done quietly or while listening to classical music. To focus on the third eye, chant the sound, Sham.
When It's Blocked
You might have problems trusting your inner voice, remembering essential facts, or mastering new abilities.
And if your lower chakras—the root, sacral, solar plexus, and heart chakras—are out of whack, your third eye will most likely be as well, leading to more judgmental, dismissive, and introverted behaviour.
“With an underactive brow chakra, we may overthink things and try to ‘figure things out,' which may leave us feeling overwhelmed and weary, as well as disconnecting us from our own intuition,” adds Kavanagh.
“As a result, we may feel scared and suspicious of life's process, as well as anxious about the future.”
A third eye obstruction has been linked to various disorders, including sadness, anxiety, a more judgmental attitude, headaches, dizziness, and other brain health problems.
On the other hand, having a wide-open third eye can result in a hyperactive imagination and a mind that runs away from us.
“With an overactive brow chakra, our clairvoyant abilities may become so strong that they overwhelm and frighten us,” adds Kavanagh.
7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
This exercise can assist you in connecting with your spiritual center or the God of your comprehension.
Crown chakra meditations can help you connect with the oneness of all beings, alleviating feelings of loneliness, heaviness, and hopelessness.
Try this practice when you have problems connecting to the peace, love, and meaning you want.
Sit in a comfortable position that allows your spine to be tall and regal. Imagine your head floating like a water lily at the top of your spine.
Relax the muscles in your neck, jaw, eyes, and brow. To stimulate and activate the crown chakra point, tap on the crown of your head a few times. Imagine a thousand-petaled lotus blossom floating in the air over your head.
Allow it to open up so you can better understand yourself and the Truth. Imagine a column of purple light shooting up toward the sky from the center of your head.
The purple light enters your body as you inhale, then into the sky as you exhale. See the light moving in as Divine consciousness fills you with each breath.
Each exhalation becomes a gift to Source. Let your focus settle on the point at the center of the imaginary lotus when it feels natural, and thank your higher self for revealing itself to you.
Gratitude can assist you in rising above your rational mind and into the spiritual realm. Try going upside down if you still feel constrained in your body and thoughts.
A headstand, or even letting your head hang off the end of the couch or bed, can help the crown chakra receive more energy.
When It's Blocked
“We may feel indifferent and listless, almost energetically numb and feel a feeling of disconnection with an underactive crown chakra, which results in a lack of direction and purpose in life,” adds Kavanagh.
Alternatively, you may feel like yourself—just not in an elevated spiritual connection and understanding, which is acceptable.
Unlike the other chakras, the crown chakra is typically only fully opened through specialized yogic or meditation exercises or at specified times—it is not a skill set you can call upon at any time.
You might acquire a taste of it by engaging in everyday activities such as meditation, prayer, and periods of stillness and thanks to experiencing those spiritual moments.
“An hyperactive head chakra frequently shows as a desire for material possessions that never seems to be satiated,” Kavanagh explains.
Greed, superficiality, and arrogance frequently lead to losing connection with others and the cosmos.
What Is The Best Way To Align and Maintain Your Chakras If They Are Blocked?
An energy healer and psychic development expert, Phil Davies, gives us his top six chakra-maintenance suggestions (energy centres).
1. Colours
Allow your instincts to guide you when selecting colours. Each of our energy centers has a unique frequency that resonates with colours that have a similar frequency.
If you don't feel safe or grounded, your Root Chakra may be out of sync with the rest of your energy centers.
You could feel compelled to wear red during this period. Whether it's outerwear or underwear, this will help filter the colour you need to help restore the energy center's equilibrium.
2. Food
Change your diet to include more foods the same colour as the Chakra you're attempting to balance.
Using the root chakra as an example, increase your intake of red-coloured foods such as tomatoes, radishes, watermelon, peppers, and pomegranates.
3. Sound
Sound has a frequency, just like colour—specific musical notes cause our energy centers to resonate.
- Root = C
- Sacral = D
- Solar Plexus = E
- Heart = F
- Throat = G
- Third Eye = A
- Crown = B
Listening to music that stimulates the above energy is recommended (classical music is pretty good for this).
4. Toning
We can also use our voices to generate tones to stimulate and balance the energy centers. Place both hands on the energy center that feels out of balance, then begin speaking in the deepest tone you can, gradually increasing in pitch.
You'll intuitively know which pitch is right for you since the center of your body will begin to feel lighter and respond to that tone. Use this tone for the rest of the day or week until you feel more balanced.
5. Essential Oils
Essential oils have a specific frequency and can be used to harmonize chakras. They can be immediately applied or inhaled.
If applied directly to the skin, ensure they've been suitably diluted with an appropriate carrier oil.
6. Visualization
Visualization is, without a doubt, the most powerful tool available. Visualize drawing energy up from the earth's core and purifying each energy center with the appropriate colour, sound, and frequency while in meditation.
Can A Blocked Chakra Affect Your Health?
According to Malaspina, the position of an out-of-balance chakra may impact the areas of your body that are close to it.
The area's organs, bones, joints, and tissues are all harmed. Chakra imbalances, according to her, can cause emotional abnormalities.
This may result in feelings of rage, grief, fear, or indecision. “It's crucial to pay attention to both the psychological and physiological feelings.
They can inform each other and identify the fundamental reason for the experience,” Guadalupe Terrones, a qualified yoga teacher and master reiki healer, said.
“Personal behaviours such as poor physical alignment or posture, consuming harmful foods, or engaging in self-destructive behaviour can cause a chakra imbalance,” she explained.
According to Terrones, the long-term imbalance can lead to physical sickness and illness, musculoskeletal problems, and mental health issues such as sadness and anxiety.
Benefits Of Chakra Balancing
The alignment of our chakras is critical to our success in life. If your chakras aren't aligned, you're more likely to feel burned out, lack drive, and require more energy to communicate with people.
We can remove energetic internal system obstacles and become more balanced through chakra alignment techniques. Chakra balancing and alignment have numerous advantages.
It improves interpersonal interactions, a stronger sense of unbreakable willpower, and a clearer life purpose.
Wheels Of Energy
Learning to tune in and ask oneself, “What do I actually need at this moment?” is an integral part of Chakra training.
It takes effort because many of us have been conditioned to give ourselves what we want rather than require.
Spending time alone in silence refines our inner senses and brings us closer to our stronger desires.
Our bodies and minds are greatly influenced by our energy and the energy of others, whether we are conscious of it or not. Our vessel is our body.
It is the vehicle through which our minds and spirits travel. Vehicles require routine maintenance.
But our spirit, housed in this vehicle, also does. How can we expect to work like a well-oiled machine if we allow ourselves to get rusty?
Help To Stay Receptive To The Eternal Life Force
Our physical bodies exist in a dimension different from our energy centers. As the tip of our consciousness, our mind attempts to convey awareness to these bodily centers.
Consider your physical appearance. When you cut your finger or get a cold, your body produces antibodies and red blood cells to help you recover quickly.
However, because your spirit dwells in the physical realm, your body cannot do so. The energy centers are found in the psycho-spiritual plane of existence, also known as the subtle body.
So, how do we address the imbalances while encouraging our energy healer to work? We could crave chamomile tea or feel compelled to remove our shoes and stroll barefoot.
These intuitive activities assist us in rebalancing and realigning. In terms of human experience, the ego triumphs over intuition. External stimulation can obfuscate the mind.
As a result, we must focus on unblocking our energy centers and realigning our chakras regularly.
Without our physical bodies naturally caring for our chakras (energy centers), we must put in extra effort and practice.
Release Inner Godliness And Thrive
Our interrelationships and creativity suffer when our sacral chakra is out of balance. You were born to create.
That idea is well-represented by the orange sacral chakra. Many societies have made it nearly a habit to experience a block in this aspect of our existence.
Not everyone is creative; we're taught. Your sexual orientation is incorrect. Before you turn 30, you must locate a life partner.
It's too late if you don't. We can stop internalizing these external beliefs if we focus on them. As a result, we begin to flourish in our relationships and enjoy our lives to the fullest extent possible.
Align The Inner World With The Outer World
Nature is responsible for keeping our planet alive and thriving. It's only natural that the colour green is associated with our inner being's heart chakra.
Our hearts, like nature, are what keep us alive and healthy. We may be fully sensitive to the universe's energy when our inner and outer worlds are in sync.
This energy can flow easily through us without obstructions in our chakra systems. As a result, we become healthier individuals.
We cannot be thrown off balance by mental or physical illnesses. When we have a steady chakra energy core, we are nourished from the inside out, not the outside.
Create Reality By Speaking The Truth
Sometimes, in our lives, we get in the way of our progress. We create a block within ourselves when we are afraid of being judged, aren't honest about what we want, and don't communicate about the things that upset us.
As a result, we stifle our development, limit our options, and jeopardize our happiness. Being able to talk openly has secret magic.
Our speech can shape our world. As a result, talk with love and truth. Only speak about what you know to be accurate and about what you know.
Achieve Overall Balance
Each of the seven “flavours” of awareness represented by the chakras can be given time each day. Security, power, love, and wisdom are action potentials in your awareness.
You can discreetly encourage the attributes associated with each chakra by focusing on it for a few minutes each day.
Some individuals find it helpful to sit with their eyes closed and their hands on each chakra seat while focusing on it.
Develop Energetics
The chakras have long been thought to be the portals through which the life force (Shakti) passes through the mind-body system. This energy manifests as mental, bodily, and emotional manifestations.
For example, “support,” a keyword for the first chakra, is linked to feelings of emotional safety, mental assurance, physical stability, and independence.
When you look at your chakras, you can see your strengths or weaknesses in each area. In this approach, you may map your “energy flow” and see where you need to develop (physically, cognitively, or emotionally) and expand where you're strong. This can be an efficient method of achieving wholeness.
Enhance Well-Being
In classical Yoga, the life force ascends from the root chakra, merging with spiritual energy as it descends from the seventh chakra to the sixth chakra.
Many different styles of meditation have evolved from this foundation, some of which are pretty particular or sophisticated.
But, in its most basic form, you are in a natural state of harmony and well-being when your consciousness is balanced in all seven domains.
This implies that the easiest, natural way to approach well-being is to discover methods for your life to “be in the flow.”
The chakra system allows us to manage life globally by combining these three areas: balance, energy, and well-being.
Specific activities, such as daily meditation and Ayurvedic practice, are included in the overall plan.
It's not required to take the chakras literally, to approach them mystically, or even to envision them.
What matters is that you acquire access to the delicate layers of existence, where latent potentials can be awakened, and greater fulfillment can be realized.
Conclusion
If the above breakdown of chakras piques your interest, you can learn more about chakra balancing and realignment.
Yoga, meditation, chakra cleansing, certain types of bodywork, and even music can be used to achieve this.
